Uses of Hemp Seed Oil

Hemp Acres offers two kinds of hemp seed oil: Virgin and Refined. To produce, first we clean locally-sourced hemp grain to 99% purity. Then we run it through a press which extrudes the oil from the seed. The resulting oil may be bottled and sold as virgin, or it may go through further refinement to produce Refined Oil.

Hemp seed oil is high in amino acids such as linoleic acid and gamma-linoleic acid (GLA). It’s a nutritious and delicious oil that can be used in all the same ways as olive oil. It can be drizzled over bread or used in salad dressing, granola, sauces, cookies and more. It has a relatively low smoking point; it can be used for cooking but should not be used for frying.

Refined Oil goes through additional refinement steps which creates a clear, golden oil. This type of oil is great as a food just like the Virgin oil, but it also is wonderful for cosmetic applications. It is non-comedogenic which means that it won’t clog pores. It is highly moisturizing and has inflammation-reducing properties. It can reduce irritation from common skin conditions.

Another popular use for the Refined Oil is as a base in CBD and other cannabinoid tinctures instead of MCT or coconut oil.

Hemp seed oil is also used in industrial applications. It is a great lubricant for machinery, especially in food processing contexts. It is a good base for paints and a natural wood sealant.
